General Educational Development (GED)®

What is the GED®?

The GED® is a high school equivalency credential. All Idaho colleges and 97% of colleges and employers across the U.S. accept the GED®. If you are relocating to Idaho, GED® scores from tests taken in other states will transfer.

Îá°®³Ô¹Ï is an official GED® testing site, but taking classes at Îá°®³Ô¹Ï is not required for taking the GED test here. However, we do offer free Basic Skills classes to help you prepare.

About the GED® Test

The GED® consists of four separate timed tests:

  • Mathematical Reasoning
  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Taking all four subject tests at one time is not recommended.

GED® exams are given in-person at the Îá°®³Ô¹Ï Twin Falls and Burley campuses. Online testing may be possible. For details, see: . GED® tests can be taken in English or Spanish.

Who Can Take the GED®

You can take GED® tests if you are:

  • Age 16 years or older*
  • Not enrolled in high school
  • Legally in the U.S.

*If you are under 18, you must submit an Idaho Youth Waiver before you can test.

To Get Started with the GED® Process

Scheduling and paying for the practice or official GED® exams must be done directly through GED® by going to or by calling 1-877-EXAM-GED (1-877-392-6433).

GED Ready® Practice Tests

GED® also offers practice tests. The practice test results will tell you if you are ready to take the official tests. GED Ready® tests are recommended but are only required if you choose the online GED® test option. The practice tests can be taken anywhere you have internet services.

Test Costs

Each official subject test costs $36, for a total of $144. Re-takes of a single subject are $10 each. Practice tests are usually $7.99 each. If you do not show up for a scheduled test appointment, you will still be charged for the test. Tests are scheduled at  and can be paid for with a credit/debit card or voucher.
